In between the lockdowns last september, we had the pleisure to go to Paris for Fashionweek, and also visited the exhibition "Alaia and Balenciaga; Sculptors of shape" at the Azzedine Aleia foundation. It feels appropriate to post it now, just before the holiday season giving you some great dressing inspiration for Christmas and New Years Eve (even though most countries are in lockdown, it is nice to dress up somehow).
As great lovers of minimalism and aesthetics we were overwhelmed by the design of the exhibition. White see-through tinted glass divided the different rooms but also gave beautiful sight on the garments, especially the black shapes. Impressive were the black dresses and coats, still in impeccable condition and done with the most delighted attention for details. Timelessness and quality are the key words to use for these garments, you could absolute wear them today and for years to come.
All the garments exhibited, over half of which have never been shown before, are selected from the historical collections of the Foundation, The works by Alaia have been protected by the couturier. The works by Balenciaga have been aquired since 1968 and were reunited by the passion that Alaia harbored towards the elevated examples of fashion's past.
It is definetely a must-see for every fashionlover when in Paris but unfortunately closed due to the lockdown. It will reopen at january the 7th when the lockdown has ended. For up-to-date information we advice you toc check their site HERE.
