Happy to see you Ujoh back at Paris Fashionweek presenting their
Spring/Summer collection at the beautiful venue Maison des Metallos on our
last day in Paris. Last time just before the pandemic hit, we got to know
Ujoh during their debut in Paris, showing their Fall/Winter 20202
collection.
Ujoh is established in 2009 by designer Mitsuru Nishizaki who worked for Y's
and Yohij Yamamoto as a pattern cutter for seven years. With a desire to
expand his Ujoh's brand vocabulary, the designer teamed up with artist and
artisans to take his minimalist approach and aesthetich in a new direction.
There is a jewelry collaboration with designer Shota Mino, hand-painted
prints by paint artist Kanako Sasaki, foil-presses silk crepe from Kyoto and
washi paper from Echizen-Fukui. Assembled in a basic color palette of black and grays, along with bright
orange and fuchsia, the collection was centered around craftmanship and
quality.
The key elements and niche of the brand; modern tailoring and
asymmetrical cuts, was seen in the cropped female blazers and blouses,
with drawstrings, as well as the bold blazers and cropped pants
(genderless) the men wore. For this collection the brand designed several
light summer dresses with different foldings and pleats coming in a range
of prints and fabrics. Higlight of the collection were the foil-pressed
mini-skirts, bikerjacket and bralette top, giving it a vibrant and bold
look.
Most outstanding look was the opening look, the yellow pants with mini-skirt
and white blouse, beautiful and wearable in it's simplicity. Another
favourite we saw in the beige dress-over-pants, hold together and pleated
with drawstrings, combined with a beige blazer, open-toe loafers and a white
wrapped top....timeless. Same for the white pleated maxi-skirt, styled with
a neutral toned cropped sheer jacket and folded skirt. We could easily wear
this to work, an event or party.
Extra mention for the jewelry, japanese
craftmanship and design at it's best.
