Backstage at Pays des Fées Fall/Winter '25/'26 Tokyo Fashionweek

After a series of collaborations with various creators, Pays Des Fées, the label founded in 2014 by designer Lim Asafuji, chose to merge its vision with that of one of the most influential figures in the manga industry. As a devoted reader of Ito's work since childhood, Asafuji found her muse in Tomie: a girl of uncanny beauty whose hypnotic allure conceals the horror and danger embedded in her existence. Tomie became the key visual and conceptual anchor of, a collection built on the tension between prettiness and grotesque imagery. While a concept so closely tied to a cult narrative could easily slip into costume, the collection strikes a balance, firmly rooted in fashion. Beyond the most immediate references, Tomie's iconic hairstyle, her unmistakable eye makeup complete with the infamous mole, or the direct reinterpretation of manga panels as prints, the influence reveals itself in subtler choices. Fabric selection, silhouette construction, and textural contrasts all echo Ito's world. High-quality materials uphold a classic femme fatale elegance, while the palette remained romantic and seductive, mirroring Tomie's deceptive charm, only to be disrupted by blood-like splatters that hint at the violence beneath the surface. Junji Ito himself attended the show, which was set on in an old clinic.

About the brand:
Lim Asafuji born in Iwate Prefecture, founded the brand in 2014; ''Strange and cute'' as main axis.
The brand takes inspiration from literature, art, folklore, and more, and combine it with the designer's own stories to create a style that is centered around the idea of “bizarrely kawaii”. We move freely between the “Underground” and the “Overground”, the subculture life and the mainstream, where each season Asafuji presents her unique and unrestricted ideas.
