On the runway with Gauchere Spring/Summer '21

Last march, during Paris Fashionweek, Gauchere presented their current Spring/Summer '21 collection at the Espace Commines. There were a few restricted shows and this was one of them. The place was decorated with clean white poufs for the audience to sit on and some simple candles. With help of the spirits of the sacred wood, Palo Santo from Brazilian Amazon, Marie-Christine Statz (Founder and Designer of Gauchere) invited John James to initiate a decompression ceremony. She and the vibrations of the drums set the rhythm for this experience.

"In these unusual times, looking at one thing at a time, listening to one sound at a time and allowing the experience to resonate was the key mood for Marie-Christine Statz. The urge to connect with ourselves, with what is right in front and with nature is a sensation that the designer felt and found it was shared by her community. Doug Aitken’s installation ‘sonic pavilion’ with its more than 200 meters deep cavity brings up continuous and constantly-changing live sounds of the earth that are rich in frequencies and textures. The curved glass of the the prism-like architecture creates an optical distortion that visually blurs everything except what is directly in front of the viewer. This living artwork is a space for introspection and deeply touched Marie-Christine Statz. This strong feeling of a common intrinsic concentration is translated into the Spring Summer 2021 collection. In order to bring this feeling to life during the defile."         -from Gauchere-

The collections color palette showed the signature black and white as well as the naturals like warm tones, vanilla, khaki and brick stone red, but also bright bleu and yellow. Broad shoulders were paired with small waists in dresses and blazers, an important silhouette which we've seen before in Gauchere's previous collections. Like wise some super light silks and laces, cut-out and added in unusual places, with decent tailoring.
We got what we came for... Parisian cool, easy to style for today's modern women, set in a beautiful aesthetically pleasing place. We loved  the bolded draped tops, in black and white, with small straps. Favourites were also the sleeveless blazer pleated together in small waists and the lace details in the black dresses. Special mention for the yellow light satin ensemble with black lace.
Hopefully next season, again IRL.
