One of our highlights, last fashionweek was Canadian designer Mari-Eve
Lecavalier's Spring Summer '22 collection. Having a spot on the Wollmark Prize
Finals in 2021, the designer's dream came true last february with a
presentation of her new collection at Paris Fashionweek.
A big part of the collection has been sustainability and upcycling. The
oversized denim pants and jackets are made of 100% recycled denim and not
dyed; the crochet dress and tops are knitted together out of left-over
leathers and inspired by vintage crochet techniques, the floral prints on the
white jackets are created by pressing flowers from the designer's own garden
into the fabric, done by artist Marie Les Bains.
Lecavalier wants to invite us to let ourselves go and explore our inner
strength using different textures and dimensions. Therefore the suiting is
easy, likewise chic, and slightly oversized. Wide pants combined with cropped
(denim) jackets or blazers underneath, sheer draped and chrochet-like dresses
styled and layered over long blouses and pants and the use all kind of
left-over fabrics like scuba and leather to create volume. The looks are
finished off with a simple shoe, for not distracting the attention of the
body.
The playful and sensual collection feels very into the now and was something
we needed this fashionweek during the pandemic. For the presentation, Palais
de Tokyo was transformed into a kind of romantic clean venue with just some
lamps, flowers, wooden stools and a screening of the collection's video.
Absolute standout looks, were the leather handcrafted knitted crochet-like
dresses and tops. Another definite favourite were the blue and black sheer
dresses. We could imagine wearing the crochet and sheer dresses over a
swimsuit on the beach, over a bermuda with kicks on a sunny day, or with a
glittering swimsuit underneath at a hot party.
At last a very special mention to Julia Bartsch's beautiful handblown bubble
glass earrings, we are obsessed.
