What is there to say one week after all is said about Pharrell's
debut show for Louis Vuitton?
We will try to give you a glimpse and more detailed view on
Pharrell's first collection for the house; the Spring/Summer '24
collection. Last tuesday we visited the presentation, also
known as the re-see, at Louis Vuitton headquarter's in Paris. The
Pont Neuf full of busy parisian traffic again, and only the
spotlights still on the bridge as a last witness of what had
happened the evening before.
Under the theme “The Sun: What will you do when the sun shines
on you?”, the collection centers around the sun as a symbol of
opportunity, responsibility, and unity. Pharrell Williams draws
inspiration from the sun’s radiance, which energizes and heals,
transcending cultural and creed boundaries. This collection
encourages individuals to embrace the light within themselves
and share love with others. - Louis Vuitton
Pharrell's debut, like in his music, was full with thoughtful
references to his own legacy and joy.
Pharrell's first official move he made for the house, was twisting
the motto of his home state Virgina; "Virgina is for lovers", into
a new "LoVers" with a capital V as a hommage to Virgil Abloh.
Pretty clever and commercial, stitched on a variety of garments,
the invitation and all the goodies the guests were gifted.
"LVovers" aims to be a global diverse community which embodies
warmth, well-being and inclusiveness through a shared appreciation
for the House's core values.
The most obvious piece of the collection was the white/red
baseball jacket with the letters P and A; referring to the
same jacket Pharrell had owned and worn for many years and which
is originally from his highschool, Princess Anne. Louis Vuitton's
heritage Damier motif, re-named Damoflage, "Damier pattern
camouflage", was leading throughout the collection. Not only on
the runway carpet, but also on denim, shorts, sweaters, socks and
a black with chrystals embroided bag. Pharrell Williams’ collaboration with American artist Henry
Taylor further elevates the collection. Taylor’s artworks,
featuring individuals who have impacted the artist’s life, are
showcased as micro embroideries on garments and accessories,
celebrating the depth and diversity of the human
condition.
Most looks went back to trim tailoring; military inspired coats,
bootleggers, leather bikerjackets with metalic bronze studs (the
copper is also coming back in the large cases and other
embroderies), camouflage suits with a more cropped designed blazer,
pixellated suits and accessories were leading and worn by Pharell
and Vip's as well. The brilliant colors were there to uplift
the green, brown & beige palette, coming in a furry coat but
mostly in bags and shoes. The classy Speedy bag reimagined in
leather and rendered in the primary colors (Going viral
already).
Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2024 Men’s Collection by Pharrell
Williams is a testament to the Maison’s commitment to
innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic collaboration. It
embodies the spirit of the sun, radiating opportunities and
empowering individuals to embrace their unique light. - Louis

Our thoughts? Showing Paris in minitature at the presentation we
were impressed by the influence of Pharell, bringing diversity and
inclusitivity at the brand. We were pleased to see so many tiny
messages in the details and the beautiful craftmanship used in the
garments. Our absolute favourite outfit was the leather green
pixelated coat. We gonna see that one out on the street next season
a lot. Another big love were the white socks with tiny pocket on the
side with a pearl closure. We also loved the round black sunnies as
well as the diamond round glasses worn by Pharell at the show. Last
but no least ... we loved the fluffy slippes coming in black, brown
and beige. Imageining ourselves with these in front of a fireplace.
We had joy!
“THE SUN / What will you do when the sun shines on you?
The Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2024 Men’s Collection orbits
the sun as a focal point for opportunity, responsibility, and
enhancement.
VA TO PARIS / Princess Anne
The Pont Neuf embodies a metaphorical bridge between Virginia
and Paris.
The memory of Princess Anne High School is epitomised in
savoir-faire takes on the varsity jacket.
VA IS FOR LVERS / Virginia is for LVERS
LVERS is a state of mind: warmth, wellbeing, and
welcome-ness.
It is the culture of a global community connected by an
appreciation for the core values of the Maison.
DAMOFLAGE / Damier meets camo
Damoflage splices the heritage Damier pattern of Louis Vuitton
with camouflage in a reflection of two domains of style, paying
tribute to friends in Paris.
DAMIER / Colours starting with yellow
An expression of synaesthesia, primary colours invigorate the
Damier motif in
interpretations from pop to pearls and pied de poule, and an
8-bit Atari pixel edition by ET Artist.
DANDY / The dandy
The attitude of the dandy cuts a loosely autobiographical
tailored silhouette adapted in a contemporary approach to
suiting and encrusted with pearls and crystals.
COMFY / Footprints
A desire for comfort is captured in magnified shearling
slippers in Monogram intarsia, their outsole embossed with a
bear’s footprint, created to leave an impression.
TRUNKS / Healing properties
The prized Louis Vuitton trunk materialises in Monogram copper,
a healing element essential to all living organisms, known to
transform in the light of the sun.
SUNGLASSES / Super zooming
Made for focus, sunglasses with caps crafted in the image of
camera lenses invite the wearer to see the world through primary
colour-tinted glasses.
HENRY TAYLOR / Human relations
Artworks made by the American artist Henry Taylor, depicting
figures who have been a part of the artist’s life, are featured
as micro embroideries on tailoring and denim as well as
accessories.
SPEEDY / Canal Street
A new adaptation of the Louis Vuitton Speedy bag conjures the
attitude and hustle mentality of Canal Street in an everyday
icon conceived for every walk of life.
JOY (Unspeakable)
The soundtrack is an original composition: Peace Be Still by
Pharrell Williams feat. Lang Lang; Chains & Whips by Clipse;
and JOY (Unspeakable) by Voices of Fire feat. Pharrell
Williams.
“This moment is dedicated to the giant before me. To our
brother in spirit.”
