Auralee Tokyo presented their Fall/Winter '23 Men and Women's
collection in Paris during Paris Men's Fashionweek last january. The
brand is based in Japan and Auralee means 'The lands that lights up'.
In the words of founder Ryota Iwai: "I didn't want the brand's name
to be too dramatic or meaningful. I definitely would've been
uncomfortable naming the brand after myself. I wanted something
concise and memorable. 'Auralee' is the title of an old American
folk song. At first, I didn't know what it actually meant, I just
responded to the soulful, evocative sound of the name. When I found
out its meaning, I thought it was very appropriate; I envision my
collections to be worn in the morning light."
Iwai has found a perfect formula for amazing relaxed simplicity and
always uses the highest quality of raw materials and yarns from
Japan and all over the world. The brand's frequent New Balance
collaborations makes it an easy sell to even non-fashion people. For
the Fall/Winter collection Auralee designed the New Balance 1906
sneaker in white and light blue hues.
The collection features elegant and cozy pieces, where you can crawl
into feeling relaxed, comfy and warm. We don't see any logo's on the
pieces, just the quality of the knitwear and innners plus the
tailored details. The brand uses luxurious light fabrics as baby
cashmere, baby alpaca, fine mohair and wrinkled silk, all coming in
the brand's signature tones of beige, white, light blue accompanied
with this seasons jade green and red. Presenting effortless and
functional clothing, uplifted with slightly oversized tailoring, the
brand does what it's known and celebrated for. Ryota Iwai shows you
can be tastefully with the right coat or just a loose blanket and
belt (Shoutout for the styling).
Outstanding looks were the light yellow laque maxidress (also coming
in a skirt and pufferjacket), combined with an easy checkered scarf,
slippers and long warm ribbed wool socks. Another favourite we found
in the long crochet dress, styled with a belt and tucked-in gloves,
modern and sophisticated.
"The collection features affable and elegant pieces, that one
can snug in and feel soothed and relaxed. It balances intricate
yet rough layers of cozy knitwear and inners, with elegant
structured tailored outerwear and details. The pieces are made
from luxurious and light fabrics such as baby cashmere, baby
alpaca, fine mohair, raised fabrics, and wrinkled silk. The
color palette mixes the brand’s signature tones of egg beige,
elegant white, light blue, and soft pink, with warm yet
vivid jade green, turquoise and blues and orangish reds. A
beautifully refined tailored hooded coat in soft brushed alpaca,
cut elongated, and enveloping, and loose-fitting, can be worn
over cozy thermal innerwear in ribbed knit or in supple
luxurious baby cashmere; blending homely comfort with elegance,
it’s a piece that has timeless wardrobe appeal. Anoraks have
fluffy unique textures and roomy, comfy proportions, and can be
worn with ease over fluid drawstring pants or over long, flowing
skirts and knit dresses. Vivid and soft coloured down jackets
are gently voluminous and warm; hooded knitwear in cashmere or
mohair are proposed in updated iterations, and add a sense of
freshness when layered with tailoring or outerwear staples."- From Auralee
