London-based, Chinese designer Feng Chen Wang presented her Fall/Winter
'23 collection during Paris Men's Fashionweek, showing the mens- and
womenswear at the same time. Being an established star in the London
fashion scene, the designer is always going back in time to untangle her
roots. The collection drew inspiration from traditional Chinese patchwork
representing community love. The designer's starting point was "Hundres
families robe"; a tradition that see new parents visiting hundred
relatives to gather material used in patchwork, symbolizing love. This
tradition made the designer think about oppurtunities for connection and
bringing together diverse cultures and communities.
For the Fall/Winter '23 collection the designer plays with the past and
present, using cut-sewed fabrics, a range of traditional motifs like the
Chines knots and her grandparents blankets full of history. Leather jackets are adjusted with puffed shoulders, while deconstructed vests and knits show of skin and have slashed collars. There are a lot formal patchwork ensembles as well as tweed suitings, completing the heritage spirit, and combined with cut-out tops and mohair beanies. Mis-matched and printed denim are in pants as well as a high-split skirt combined with a cropped denimjacket and long haired Phoenix coat. The grandparents guilted blankets are designed as bomber jackets and glossy leather looks are enlarged with chest knots for secure closure. The monochromatic red ensemble, a knit bandeau top with skirt, is looking cozy with the beanie and big red scarf. The designer's niche bamboo bag comes in different forms and sizes this season including the heart-shaped one.
Most outstanding look was seen in the red knitted ensemble, comfy and warm, an absolute eyecatcher. We also loved the printed denim looks, using indigo blue made the outfits look chic yet casual. Another favourite was the clever designed earth-brown trenchcoat, surprisely cropped in front and long on the back.
